U15 and U14 Crowned County League Cricket Champions

Posted on: 12/09/2019

St Birinus has had a very successful few days, being crowned County League Champions in two age groups.

The St Birinus cricket season has lasted a little longer than usual due to two of our teams reaching the County League Finals, but not having enough time to play them before the end of the summer term.  It was for this reason that both the U15 and U14 teams were in action during the first week of this term.

Our U15 team travelled to Lord Williams's School in Thame.  Bowling first, SBS got off to the perfect start with a wicket for Matthew Ford (4-4) from the second ball of the game.  This set the tone and one wicket fell in each of the first 6 overs with both Felix Cotton (2-10) and Lawson Harvey (1-11) picking up wickets.  Captain Liam Cole (2-2) then took two more before Ben Wright (1-10) wrapped up the Lord Williams's innings.  This left SBS only requiring 39 runs for the win.  Callum Henderson (9 Not Out) and George Rushton (20 Not Out) secured the win.

In the second final, SBS also bowled first and restricted Matthew Arnold School to 104-4 with wickets for Finlay McMillan (1-10), Joseph Weller (2-8) and Jacob Townsend (1-5).  They were ably supported by some good bowling from Daniel Casson, Finlay Coles, Alex Darling, Sam Burchall and Liam Leighton.  That total didn't prove to be enough, as opening batsmen Joseph Weller (24 Not Out) and Jacob Townsend (54 Not Out) put on a century partnership before Jacob retired allowing Daniel Casson to come in and hit the winning runs.

Well done to all the boys for getting to and winning the finals!
