Reporting Absences
If your child is unable to attend school for any reason, please could parents/carers email
attendance@st-birinus.oxon.sch.uk or call reception by 9:00am and leave a message.
Please make sure you state:
- your child’s name
- form group
- reason for absence
Please speak clearly and spell any unusual names.
When your child returns to school please provide school with a note.
Students should attend school every day unless they are ill or have permission to be away. Dental and medical appointments should be made outside school hours where possible.
If your child has an unavoidable appointment such as a hospital appointment, please inform the school in writing in advance of the appointment. We may require a copy of the appointment letter if this is a frequent occurrence.
We will often contact home by text, phone or letter if you are absent and no reason has been provided.
St Birinus is trying hard to work together with parents, carers and students to maintain and reward good attendance. It is important that any issues that may prevent your child from attending are brought to the attention of their Head of Year as soon as possible.
Did you know that:
- if you achieve 100% attendance (190 days), you still have an amazing 175 days of holiday
- being late 10 mins every day for one year is equal to 33 hours approximately 7 days
- research has shown that 17 days absence in a year results in a drop of one grade at GCSE
